Weather Policy
“It’s raining... Will there be practice?”
We get this question a lot! Our weather policy prioritizes safety first. Light rain? We usually play on! Thunder, lightning, or unsafe conditions? Practice will be canceled or rescheduled.
When we cancel:
When wind is sustained over 20 miles per hour.
A lightning strike detected within a 10-mile radius of the practice in the past 30 minutes.
Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm weather.
Air Quality Index is over 150
The temperature is over 102 F
We use the WeatherBugg app to track lightning.
We’ll always notify parents via email and Gamechanger as early as possible if weather affects our schedule. Check your inbox before heading to the field!
A note from your director…
As weather conditions can quickly change, we often wait until 3 or 4pm the day of practice to decide on a weather cancelation. We use the hourly forecast to best determine what the actual conditions will be like during our practice times.
It can be overwhelming for us to reply to messages throughout the day asking if we will cancel due to current weather conditions. Please wait until 3 or 4pm for an email and Gamechanger announcement before reaching out. Weather can often take a turn for the worse, so we may also dismiss practices after they have begun if conditions intensify.
Some coaches may prefer to offer a makeup instead of holding practice in questionable weather. Although we try to keep everyone on the same page, we give our coaches this freedom. We also support parents who decide to keep their child home due to individual sensitivities or conditions.
It can be a healthy experience for our young kids to learn about layering and choosing the proper attire for whatever weather our wonderful planet throws at us!
Now let’s get out there and play!
